'Blimp' will fly this weekend to raise wind
The Cotton Farm Action Group's 20ft Stop the Wind Farm
blimp will fly over Graveley this weekend (April 19
and 20), subject to weather conditions. The Group
plans to fly the inflatable at 127 m (417ft) - the
height of the wind turbines proposed for Cotton Farm -
so local people can get a clearer idea of just how
massive these wind turbines would be. Residents in
outlying villages will also be able to see the height
of the turbines in relation to the local landscape and
understand the significant visual impact this wind
power station would have on villages for miles around.
The Action Group estimates that turbines of 127m at
Cotton Farm would be visible from up to 30 miles away.
The blimp will be flying again on selected dates and
at village events throughout the summer so as many
people as possible get to experience just how gigantic
127m above ground level really is. We will let you
know when future dates are finalised.
If you see the blimp in the sky from your village, we
would be grateful if you could take a photograph from
an identifiable location and send it by e-mail to
webmaster@stopthewindfarm.org.uk with details of the
location of the camera at the time the shot was taken.
Photographs could help us to demonstrate visual impact
over long distances to the planners.
