Carol Shaw & Richard Herbert to run London
Carol Shaw & Richard Herbert are planning the last stages of their training ready to take part in the Flora London Marathon.
"We are a pair of 40 some things who have one thing in common, we are both busy training for one of life's biggest challenges by running the Flora London Marathon 2009 for The National Eczema Society!"
"Alright one of us has done it a couple of times before, the other is a first timer."
"Our names are Richard Herbert; Police Officer with the City of London Police. Father of two, living in Papworth. Built for comfort and not speed! For the third year in succession participating in the Marathon on 26th April. Again running for a charity close to his families heart."
"I am Carol Shaw, Pendragon Primary School Head Teacher, and I am looking to raise the awareness of Eczema in school as so many children suffer with this terrible condition. Having run numerous half marathons I figured it was time to take the plunge and run the 'London'"
"Eczema is an incurable skin condition affecting around 1 in 12 adults and 1 in 5 children in the UK. Eczema is more than just dry skin, as it can affect all aspects of family life, education, employment and social interaction causing immense pain, emotional stress, feelings of isolation and frustration."
"Our pledge is to raise £2000 for the charity. I have been honored with 'Gold Bond' place from the Society. This is particularly special as they are only allocated seven places. The National Eczema Society constantly gets over looked by the more popular / high profile charities that often have considerably more charity places for this event - raising hundreds of thousands of pounds."
"Richard has been allocated a place through the Police with the encouragement from the crowds and the lure of the all-important finish line has agreed to support me by joint fundraising. "
The National Eczema Society is dedicated to offering support, information and guidance to those living with eczema and works on their behalf.
